As we draw a close to another remarkable year for Tramore Basketball Club and look ahead with optimism to the new season, it is a fitting moment to reflect on some of what has been achieved together (nothing left out intentionly but just so much to mention!) and to acknowledge the people who make this club what it is.
The early part of the year brought some truly outstanding sporting accomplishments. Our U13 Boys enjoyed a memorable season, securing the treble, while our U13 Girls lifted the Cup and the Top 4—fantastic achievements that reflect both talent and commitment. The U12 Boys Cup win was another highlight, showcasing the depth of ability coming through the club.

At representative level, we saw further milestones. Our U14 Boys and U16 Girls reaching the AICCs was a credit to the players and coaching teams, while the U18 Girls’ participation in the National Cup marked a hugely significant moment—representing the club on the national juvenile stage for the first time in decades. These achievements speak volumes about the standards now being set across all age groups.
As the new 2025–2026 season got underway, the club continued to move forward with real momentum. A particularly proud moment was the return of our Senior Women’s Team to league competition after a long absence—an important and positive step for the club. Our Senior Men’s Team also continued their proud tradition of representing Tramore, now spanning over three decades… with some players seemingly determined to personally cover most of those years themselves! Encouragingly, we are also seeing younger players, developed through our academy system, now stepping up to men’s basketball.
Player retention and inclusivity remain central to our ethos, and entering two teams at U12 girls and U13 boys this season, is a major milestone in that regard. All teams have been competitive in the first half of the season, reflecting the strength of participation and development within the club.
Beyond competitive basketball, the club continues to thrive as a community. Our mixed adult social basketball hour remains hugely popular and provides a welcoming outlet each week. The Junior Academy for 1st and 2nd class continues to grow and flourish, offering a fun, supportive entry point and a clear pathway for both boys and girls. It has also been great to see our new U10 boys and girls stepping up from the Junior Academy and beginning their journey into competitive basketball.
All of this takes place against the ongoing backdrop of our efforts to maintain access to the sports hall and secure long-term tenure, ensuring we can continue to cater for over 300 juvenile players and more than 50 adult members. This challenge remains a priority, and one we will continue to work on collectively in the year ahead.
As Chairperson, I want to sincerely thank our members, volunteers, and especially our wonderful coaches. Their dedication, generosity with their time, and commitment to our young people and adult players alike are the foundations upon which every success is built. Without them, this club would look very different.
On behalf of the committee, I wish you and your families a very happy, healthy, and successful New Year. We look forward to another exciting year of basketball, development, and community in 2026.
Warm regards,
Derek Frisby
