A bright and early start for the U13Boys last Saturday as they gathered at the Hall for their end of season tournament in Cork. Despite the 6:30 start the boys were in high spirits as they boarded the bus for what promised to be an exciting day out pitting themselves against some of the country's elite. First stop of the day was to the North Mon Hall on Corks northside to face Midleton BC. After a "leggy" start the boys eventually got moving through the gears and came out victorious. A short while later we faced a very physical Bantry team and again the lads took care of business. Our last pool game was against the much fancied Dublin Lions, recent winners of the Portlaoise tournament, and it proved to be a humdinger. The game ebbed and flow in a high scoring match but the lads showed great steel and saw of the Dublin team by a single point. This win ensured we progressed straight to the quarter finals and with it a change of location.

Back onto the Bus and we headed to the spiritual home of Cork basketball, the Parochial Hall in Gurranabraher. Awaiting us in the quarter finals were Kanturk BC. We started strong and maintained it for the duration to see off a resilient Cork side. This victory meant we qualified for the semi-finals of a major tournament where we would face-off with Limerick Celtics.

We started the game well but the day soon began to catch up on us and we simply ran out of steam. Limerick were a very good side but at this stage our boys had been on the road for over 10 hours and the energy that our game is based on just simply wasn't there. We rallied for a period after half-time but Limerick were not for catching on this occasion. They were simply better than us on the day and no excuses from our boys.

Our journey ended at the semi-final but what a day out to end the season for this remarkable bunch of boys who have had a record breaking year. This tournament showed that we can compete at the highest level and we now know what is required to get to that next step.

A big thank you to the Cork County Board for extending an invite to us, they ran a brilliant event that was  superbly organised. The club, and in particular the coaches, could not be prouder of the lads, roll on next season.
