The last Tramore team to go into action on Top4 weekend was our U13 Boys and what a way to finish out the season!
The Boys were chasing an unprecedented treble after successfully completing a League & Cup double.
Once again it was our old foe’s Kilkenny Stars in the final and after several close encounters this season it was always going to be an edge of your seat encounter…and so it proved to be!
Stars started the stronger and with Tramore showing real signs of nerves they couldn’t get their game flowing. As the game entered the third quarter we were still trailing and through nothing but true grit, the boys just kept hanging in. Spurred on by the raucous Tramore supporters their fortunes finally turned and heading down the home straight in the 4th they started to reel in Stars and setup a dramatic finale eventually drawing level by full-time
Overtime ensued and thankfully all the momentum was with the boys as they sealed a memorable win and with it a historic treble.
Captain Shane Phelan, accepting the title on behalf of his teammates, gave a great speech acknowledging the contribution of all involved both on the day and in the season itself. It was fantastic to see Shane be very gracious to our great rivals KK Stars. It was also great to see this reciprocated by their coach, Damian Brett, who we are sure would have rathered exit stage left, but, remained to hand out the winners medals and trophy to our Tramore team. A wonderful show of sportsmanship that didn't go unnoticed.
These U13 boys have had a season to remember under the watchful eye of coaches Phe, Robin & Brian.
A super way to round out the competitive basketball season and shows the upward trajectory of the club as we continue to grow year by year.
